52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks
Week 33
Prompt – Comedy
Grandpa Bill: “What kind of music
does a rabbit like to listen to? “
Granddaughter Kelsey: “I don't know.”
Grandpa Bill: “ Hip – Hop!”
The moans and groans tell us it has to
be a “dad or grandpa joke”.
I must admit that comedy, jokes and humor were not a Peters attribute. It must have been our Mennonite
background. We weren't straight laced, but I can't recall a dad joke
ever. Help me out siblings if you can recall just one.
Circa 1980 Anton (Tony) Hoffart |
Bill comes by it honestly because his
father was a natural joke teller. Tony Hoffart was the master of
sucking you in and creating a room full of moans. Unfortunately, I
can't recall any specific ones. Tony's stories were the long drawn
out ones that move seamlessly from an ongoing conversation to the
punch line of a joke and you rarely seen it coming. What genius!
Circa 1950's Tony In An Apron! |
When I think of my father in law, Tony,
I recall his quick wit, his sense of humor and that he seemed to be always smiling. This was a part of who he was and probably why he was so well liked by his family and those in the Saskatoon community.
1983 Jill and Jackie Tickling Grandpa |
Jill reminded me last week that it has been 27 years since he died of cancer. He was just 69 years old. We all miss him so much.
